Next week is also Teacher Appreciation Week!

Our theme this year is "Thank you, teachers, for helping us BLOOM!"
The PTA will be decorating the teachers' doors and
providing meals, snacks, and other treats throughout the week.

Our teachers do an awesome job and we hope this week helps to show them how much we appreciate all of their hard work!

If you get a chance, write a note or email
to thank a teacher for anything they've done this year
that has helped your child
(and maybe have your child write one too!).

Kudos!

Mrs. Theusen, our choir teacher, received the Excellence in Service award on March 16 for her many years of work with the choir at Mapleton Elementary. We are so lucky to have her and appreciate the fantastic music and memories she helps to provide for our students.

Thank you!

Catching up on good news

On March 3rd Mapleton Elementary 5th and 6th grade debaters participated in the Nebo Elementary
Debate Tournament.

This year's resolution was "Resolved: the state of Utah should require all state government buildings to have a renewable energy source as a significant part of their total energy use."

Debate provides an excellent opportunity for students to use their skills of reading, thinking, writing, speaking and listening.

The BYU creative dance outreach group, Kinnect, came and performed in an assembly on March 11 and then did dance workshops with the second grade.

So much fun!

Link Love

So, we're updating the blog with a few new links.

First, our Amazon link in the sidebar. I'm thinking it might need a new look, because green is, you know, so last week (St. Patrick's Day, ha ha). What do you think about this:

Or maybe this:

Or even this:

What says "click me" to you?

All of the links have our site code embedded in them and will generate the same support that the green button does. Remember, clicking on the link takes you directly to Amazon.com, and from there you shop as you normally would. There is no extra charge added if you make a purchase, but our PTA receives 4-7% of the purchase price, depending on how many transactions have taken place that month (more transactions = higher rate). All of the proceeds from the Amazon button are being donated to the school for technology needs. Anyone can click the link, so tell your friends, neighbors, rich uncles in Texas, everyone!

Also, you can now follow the blog through email. If you're like me, email is the one thing I really do remember to check, so this feature may be handy.

If you're a Facebook/Twitter user, you can share posts that you like. This is helpful, especially with Facebook, because I've learned that unless you interact with a page, it gets buried in the newsfeed and never sees the light of day. If you don't get our updates on Facebook, try going to our page and liking or commenting on something so the updates stay in your feed.

If you have ideas for other gadgets you'd like to see on the blog, send me an email. You can also send ideas for posts, feedback about what info you find helpful (or not), etc.

Boundary update

Nebo School District originally planned for the final school boundaries to be announced at the school board meeting tonight. However, the final decision has been postponed until April 6. Tonight will be a regular working session. The public is invited to attend but will not be able to speak to the board.

For more information, go here.

Hershey track

During all of the free time you'll have tomorrow because there is no school (eye roll), remember to take a moment to register for Hershey Track if you've got a third, fourth, fifth, or sixth grader. Go to this site and follow the links from there. The registration deadline is March 20; you will be able to register after that date but will be charged a $10 fee. I think I'd rather spend $10 on Hershey chocolate than Hershey track. :)

Also, No TV Weeks begins on Monday, so use this weekend to watch any and all shows you may want to see for the next week.

SEPs

Tomorrow is SEP conferences, there is no kindergarten, and don't forget to wear green!

Dads and Donuts!

One of our favorite annual events is happening tonight at the school from 6:30-8:00 p.m. It's Dads and Donuts! You may think it's all about the donuts, but the kids really do love coming with their dads (or uncles, grandpas, neighbors, whoever) to read.

Because this is such a sticky event, the books from the library will not be available to read. You can bring some from home or purchase some at the book fair, which will be open during the event.

Looking forward to...

Monday!

Just when you thought the weekend was the most fun you had to look forward to, next Monday has exciting events as well! Our Book Fair begins on Monday and will continue through Thursday. Our annual Dads and Donuts event is held in conjunction with the spring Book Fair and will be Tuesday evening from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

The third graders are also going to the Scera theater on Monday morning, so remember to pack a lunch if you indicated that preference on the permission slip.

School Board Meeting

There will be a school board meeting regarding boundaries tomorrow night at the district office, 7:00 p.m. Unlike other meetings, attendees will be allowed to speak to the board. If you have concerns you'd like to voice, you will need to get your name on the agenda. You can find information about how to do that contact at the district site. The district site also has the address and additional details about the meeting.

Read Across America!

Today is Read Across America Day! While you may not get any vacation time out of this little holiday, it's a great opportunity to revamp your reading goals, read some Dr. Seuss, and make some green eggs and ham (or whatever else your kids insist they do not like to eat in a house or with a mouse).

Really, any book or treat will do. :)
